Duke Students will participate in a collection of fun and interactive events to raise awareness about the various aspects of preventative health abroad and at home. DGMB will be having a blood pressure clinic for Duke Students on the plaza and will be talking about their work in preventative health in Central America. Know Your Status will have free STI Testing for all Duke Students the entire day in the BC. Prospective Health Care Club and Red Cross will be hosting a fitness challenge in which brave Duke Students will be able to test their physical endurance on the BC plaza. The day’s festivities will culminate in an interactive Zumba Dance on the plaza hosted by dPS Global Health Outreach with the gracious help of Wilson Zumba dance instructors.
Collaborating Student Organizations: Know Your Status, Duke Global Medical Brigades, Prospective Health Care Club, and Red Cross
1. Blood Pressure Clinic
Time: 11 AM – 1 PM
Students can see what a temporary clinic in the field would look like while learning about the importance of basic health testing when it comes to preventing illness. As a branch of the secular, international, student-operated volunteer organization whose mission is to provide sustained health care to underserved communities throughout the world, DGMB will be raising awareness of the disparities between preventative health care in the US vs. in foreign countries who lack the infrastructure that we do.

2. Fitness Challenge on the Plaza
Time: 2 PM – 4 PM
Location: Bryan Center Plaza
PHCC and Red Cross will combine efforts and run a fitness challenge on the plaza. In order to further their aims of promoting healthy lifestyles in American youth, these two groups will encourage Duke Students to take a more active approach in improving their health.

3. Zumba on the Plaza

Zumba is a phenomenon that has taken over living rooms across the Western Hemisphere and we’re bringing it to the main plaza. It will be a great way to end a busy Duke Day with some Brazilian themed dancing. Zumba promotes a very healthy lifestyle and is a fun way of getting cardio exercise. As a bonus, it will be a lot of fun and it will prove to be a magical ending for a long day of events.
